Olivia was born at PSL Hospital on Saturday, September 16, 2023, after 67 hours of labor.
We knew before birth that Olivia would have a cleft lip and palate. We prepared and planned for everything we could. We spoke to doctors in many states, joined groups, and educated ourselves. Through all of this, we never prepared for what ended up happening…
After two sudden and unexpected acidotic crashes at PSL (the first one at 24 hours old and the 2nd at 8 days old), on September 26, at 10 days old, Olivia was taken by ambulance to Children’s Hospital.
From that day on, we have worked to revive all of her organs that were affected by her crashes – presumable heart issues resolved after a life-changing surgery, her lungs were hemorrhaging but are now in great shape, liver levels were at a ‘record-breaking high,’ and in a shock state has now all normalized.
Olivia has overcome many, many grim odds. She fought hard and strong through many nights and days. With the help of her nurses, respiratory therapists, NPs, doctors, and therapists, she is enjoying her days as she recovers. She was once so critical that her ending seemed like it was being written for her. Olivia, at 3 months old, now works on her strength, and making it home to her puppies is in her future.
To say it takes a village is an understatement for these NICU babies. It takes so much more than that day in and day out, and we will always be so thankful to each and every person who spent their time, energy, and love and sent continuous prayers to save Olivia.
